Katie Couric, 69, reveals 'freaky' health scare that caused her to suffer memory loss: 'I thought it was 2024'

Katie Couric suffered a 'freaky' health scare while attending the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado on June 27.

The 69-year-old journalist penned a Substack essay titled 'The Day I'll Never Remember' on Monday where she admitted she 'remembered nothing from either panel' she participated in onstage including her fellow speakers.

'I have met Jelani [Cobb] and know Aaron [Parnas] a bit, but right now, I couldn't pick Amy [Webb] or Jerusalem [Demsas] out of a lineup,' Couric wrote.

'I have no idea what we talked about, or of what occurred when the panels ended.'

An intern alerted the seven-time Daytime Emmy winner's second husband John Molner that she was 'out of it' and he rushed her to the Aspen Valley Hospital.

'I noticed nothing unusual in the conversation or Katie's role,' the 63-year-old Katie Couric Media co-founder wrote.

'Having spent a lot of time in Aspen since I was a kid, I assumed Katie was dehydrated and suffering from some form of altitude sickness - something common among visitors to a town that's about 7,900 feet above sea level.'

When hospital staff asked Couric the month, the year and who was president, she got them wrong.

'I wasn't sure of the month. I thought it was 2024. And I believed Joe Biden was president,' the Next Question podcaster recalled.

Doctors first thought Couric had suffered a stroke but, after an MRI proved otherwise, she was diagnosed with transient global amnesia described as 'a sudden, temporary loss of the ability to form new memories.'

The neurologist reassured the Virginia-born presenter that her memory would return to normal the next day, which turned out to be true.

'This was a freaky occurrence, it could have been much more serious,' Couric marveled.

'Ultimately, I'm relieved - even though several hours of a Saturday in June will always be missing for me.'

The Daily Mail has reached out to the former CBS News anchor's rep for comment, but did not immediately hear back.

Couric was previously diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer in 2022 - which was cured following a lumpectomy, radiation therapy and aromatase inhibitors.

The former TODAY host's sister died from pancreatic cancer, her late attorney husband Jay Monahan died from colon cancer and Molner 'had a tumor the size of a coconut on his liver' removed in 2014.

On June 21, Couric and Molner celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary.

The University of Virginia grad welcomed two daughters - Ellie, turning 35 on July 23, and Carrie, 30 - during her nine-year marriage to Monahan.

Couric earned $15 million per year during her early aughts heyday hosting popular programs on all three major networks in the States - ABC, CBS and NBC.
