Lead is an important resource in Subnautica 2, but as is usually the case with the important crafting ingredients, it's very hard to find. Luckily, there's an excellent lead farming spot that should satisfy your lead demand for a while. Once you've found it, you'll get your hands on a sonic resonator in no time.
[Ed. note: Before you dive in, be sure to open the character menu and enable all landmark signals. This will make it easier to spot the locations mentioned in this guide.]
Update (June 8): Added a lead farming spot near the Alien Ruins.
How to get germanium ingots in Subnautica 2
Lead deposits look like chunky clusters of rectangular, gray ore. You will find them on the seabed as well as rock walls, but beware that lead deposits are quite rare compared to copper or titanium in Subnautica 2. If you'd like to find them yourself, look for deep gorges, quite far below the first layers of reef. You can start collecting lead fairly early in the game, as you don't need an air tank, tadpole, or sonic resonator (but keep a close eye on your oxygen level).
Although you need a sonic resonator to break large lead veins, you can break the smaller pieces with your bare hands, which yields about two or three lead chunks in total. Once you've got two pieces of raw lead, it's best to return to your base to craft a sonic resonator, so you can break the larger lead deposits from there on out.
To turn raw lead into germanium ingots, build a processor. Once you've set up a basic base with the habitat builder and solar panels, you can place a processor with titanium, copper wire, and mild acid. Insert two pieces of lead to craft one germanium ingot, which will take around two minutes to process.
Best lead farming location in Subnautica 2
Starting from the Lifepod, the original spawn point, swim toward the north-northeast to find the best lead farming spot in Subnautica 2. You can follow the 75-degree marker at the top of your screen.

There are several salt rocks and large coral crabs in this area. See the small tunnel entrance not far below the surface? Either swim across or enter it to follow the current. Behind this tunnel, you will find a deep gorge with many chunks of lead scattered across the ocean floor.

You can also locate this lead farming location by swimming 300 meters southeast of the Old Habitat, or swimming 130 meters toward the east-southeast from Camp One.
If you already have a sonic resonator, you can use it on the large chunks of lead, but if not, pick up the smaller pieces instead. Just below the current, next to the human-made cliff, you will find two large lead boulders and several smaller pieces of lead, as shown in this picture:

When you return to your base, make sure you keep some raw lead to craft a sonic resonator before processing the rest.
Alien Ruins lead locations in Subnautica 2
Once you've investigated the Tadpole Pens and crossed the ravine leading to the Alien Ruins, you might need a local lead farming spot. Luckily, there's plenty of lead in this area. First, make sure you've found the Research Center at the Alien Ruins signal (1,280 meters east of the Lifepod). From there, travel about 40 meters west to find an alcove full of lead boulders.

Use the large cave entrance a bit further northwest or the narrow chasm just in front of the lead farming spot we just described to get there.
Lead deposits don't respawn, but once you've collected some atacamite, troilite, and axum bacterial cultures, you can craft a metal farm to produce unlimited lead at your base.
If you're starting out in Subnautica 2, we have a plethora of guides to help you navigate the deep blue sea. Our Subnautica 2 beginner's guide will set you off in the right direction and our base building tips will assist in planning out your sprawling base. Don't forget to stock up on food and water, too. (And if you want to get fancy with your food, you'll want salt!)
If you need help finding materials, we explain how to get the sonic resonator, which you'll want to mine tons of materials. We have guides on where to find these resources, like sulfur, copper, quartz, and gold.
