If you haven't been following the recent news, Sony's latest State of Play has just passed, and it was a pretty good all round showcase that should give fans plenty of reasons to be excited in the coming months. Perhaps the biggest announcement of all was God of War Laufey, a spin-off to the main series that follows Kratos' dearly departed wife as the protagonist.
Excited For God Of War: Laufey? Refresh Your Memory
In case you weren't already aware, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers can play through both God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarök, at no additional cost beyond the price of their subscription. There's plenty of value in that as well, with around 45-50 hours for just the main story across both games, with something more like 100+ hours if you're planning to do a completionist run.
The first game is our introduction to the Norse mythology in the franchise, and it lays the foundations for how the series is going to play from here on out. The story is incredibly touching, and it's easily one of the better narrative releases of the last decade or so, if you're usually a fan of the genre.
Though Ragnarök is arguably less successful in what it's trying to do than the original, it's still a very good game in its own right. If you're already signed up to PlayStation Plus at the appropriate tier, then it really is one of the better choices available in the catalog right now.
It's certainly a great bet while we wait to hear more about the next game, when it's going to release and what it's going to be like. The early footage of God of War Laufey is certainly encouraging, and it should absolutely generate plenty of excitement around the franchise over the coming months. Though we don't know what those connections will be yet, there will be some narrative points that coalesce, so why not go into the new game with all that lore under your belt?
