The Social Reckoning Sees Jeremy Strong Transform Into Mark Zuckerberg

Mark Zuckerberg and Wife Priscilla Chan Make Surprise Debut at Met Gala 2026

Jeremy Strong has undergone a total transformation.

In the first trailer for The Social Network sequel The Social Reckoningwhich follows the whistleblowing events led by Frances Haugen (Mikey Madison)—fans got their first look at the Succession alum as Mark Zuckerberg, complete with blonde hair and a voice uncannily similar to that of the Facebook creator.

Picking up 17 years later, Zuckerberg is no longer a budding entrepreneur but instead a power player within the technology space. As Strong warns in the June 10 trailer, “I’m not two years out of a dorm room anymore.”

And in this sequel, the tech mogul—played by Jesse Eisenberg in the original—sees his biggest hurdle yet: a Wall Street Journal article written by Jeff Horwitz (Jeremy Allen White) which, with the help of Haugen and the internal documents she shared, exposes the company’s allegedly harmful practices and eventually brings him before Congress.

“This company and that guy,” White’s character Horwitz warns his colleagues “are playing unprecedented roles in our lives.”

And yet, he and Haugen face an uphill battle with a powerful and heavily resourced foe.

“I know there are easier enemies to make,” the reporter tells a colleague in one moment in the trailer, who replies, “The mafia would be an easier enemy to make.”

Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc.

He doesn’t have to look far for proof either, as Billy Magnussen’s Zuckerberg ally character warns, “We’re not frightened of Congress. We’re post-government around here.”

Ever the journalist, however, instead of balking White’s character asks Magnussen’s to “please, please” let him quote that in his story.

As for Strong’s Zuckerberg, while the tech mogul seems relaxed as he prepares to testify before Congress—even quipping that his job is a “professional defendant”—eventually the gravity of the situation begins to take its toll.

“Enough!” he eventually erupts during preparation. “People around here understand that when I say no, that’s the end of the debate.”

The Social Reckoning—once again written by Aaron Sorkin who is also behind the camera this time—premieres in theaters Oct. 9.

As for why Eisenberg didn’t return to once again pick up the mantle of Zuckerberg, the Now You See Me Star felt as though that chapter of his life was closed.

Appearing on Today in October, he said he bowed out for “reasons that have nothing to do with how amazing that movie will be."

“When you play a character, you feel, at some point, you’ve grown into something else,” he explained. “It’s a really wonderful movie. All of the reasons that I am not in it are completely unrelated to how brilliant it will be.”
